Long synopsis

Lizzie Carmichael (18) sits in a public toilet looking at the splattered graffiti ‘thoughts’ of many girls her age.  She recalls several nights earlier having a passionate night with her boyfriend, Mike; fighting with her sisters in their small house; and wondering why her ice cream selling father, Dan, doesn’t live with them. Her mother, Sue thinks she should worry about being the first in their family to go to university - and her summer job at the hotel. They argue over Lizzie’s future plans with Lizzie saying she will never be like her mother. Lizzie’s sick and vomits. Back in the public toilets, she stares at a positive pregnancy test. She’s been careful, or so she thought. She worries that she will end up just like her mum, her nan and her great grandma, Gan Gan - all teen mums. Her dreams of going to uni? Gone. The phone rings. It’s her mum but Lizzie hits decline. She meets with her best friend Shona, who tells her that her dad is cheating. She thinks families are not meant to be. She points to her own, and Mike’s parents as an example. Lizzie ignores persistent texts from Mike. She takes a bus home where she passes a car, inside,  a woman and a boy who recognise her and wave. Lizzie makes a call to the clinic to schedule an abortion. She continues to ignore Mike’s texts. At the clinic, Lizzie is given pills for the procedure and at home it takes affect. While in the bathroom in extreme pain, Mike arrives demanding to see her. Shona is there, too, telling him to back off. With tensions at a fever pitch, Lizzie tells them she was pregnant - but no more. It was her choice. Mike is angry that he had no say.  He ends the relationship. Shona’s upset as her best friend didn’t confide in her. Sue is upset because it wouldn’t have been her choice. On the train ride to uni, Shona is cold towards Lizzie. As they go through a tunnel, Lizzie’s phone starts to act up and she sees snippets of her future. A great career, but alone.

Lizzie awakes - back in the public toilet. Her phone rings - mum. She declines and goes to the cafe to meet Shona where she tells her she's pregnant.  Shona thinks that these days women can have their cake and eat it, too. Lizzie goes to Mike’s where she’s greeted by Francis - Mike’s rough, plumber father. He doesn’t care for her much. Lizzie tells Mike that she’s pregnant and he’s floored. This ruins all his plans but Lizzie says she has one. On the ride home, Lizzie and Mike pass the same car with a woman and a boy who wave. At home, Lizzie tells her parents that she will go to university and have the baby there. She will have her cake and eat it, too. She doesn’t need Mike. Sue thinks this is a bad idea, but Lizzie’s determined. At university, Shona wants to party, but Lizzie is too fatigued. The two friends grow apart. Lizzie goes into labour - Shona goes with her to the hospital. Life with newborn, Tilly, is difficult and Lizzie finds herself further isolated from Shona and she isolates herself from Mike who now wants to be a part of Tilly’s life. One night while alone, she falls asleep while bathing Tilly. She wakes up seeing Tilly under water. She picks her up, turns her upside down, water gushes out and Tilly screams back to life. On the tube back home from the hospital, Lizzie worries how she will cope. As she goes through the tunnel, her phone acts up and she sees Mike being a loving dad. All goes black and…

Lizzie is back in the public toilet. Again, she declines a call from her mum. She meets with Shona and tells her she’s pregnant. Shona advices the clinic, but Lizzie thinks Mike could be a good dad. She rushes to Mike’s house and tells the shocked Mike her plan. At home, she tells her family that she will live with Mike at his university and transfer there in a year. Sue thinks she would be better off at home, but Lizzie won’t hear of it. Mike and Lizzie move in together and she meets Mike’s friends. Mike tends to leave Lizzie alone claiming the need to study. She goes through pregnancy almost alone. She feels further isolated when Shona cancels a trip to see her in favour of an older beau. Mike avoids spending time with her over the Christmas break. Tilly is born, and Mike misses it because he’s studying for exams. They go back to Lizzie’s family home so the family can meet Tilly. At the party, Mike sees his mother, Erin, who we know is the woman in the car with the boy (who is her new son and Mike's stepbrother).  A fight breaks out and Mike leaves. Sue wants Lizzie to stay, but she chooses Mike and leaves. At university,  Tilly has a horrible fever and Mike is nowhere to be found. Lizzie traces Mike via her phone to a nightclub where she finds him kissing one of his ‘friends' and discovers they've been having a relationship. Destroyed, Lizzie heads back to her hometown with all her things. Her phone plays up again showing her whole family distraught. As she heads through the tunnel, all goes black.

Public toilet. Again. Pregnant. Again. Her phone rings. Decline mum. Again. Lizzie heads to the cafe where Shona frets about her family and wishes she could order a new one online. Lizzie thinks about that and does a web search. She goes to Mike’s and drops the bomb. But, she has a plan. At home, she tells her family that she will put the baby up for adoption. Sue thinks this is the absolute wrong thing do. As a grandma, she could raise the child. But Lizzie states that she doesn’t think that’s the best idea. She and Mike go to an adoption centre and fill out the extensive paperwork. When Shona learns about it, she confides that she had to go to the clinic a year ago. Mike and Shona head off to university and Lizzie stays home working at the hotel. She gets a call from the adoption agency and meets the new parents, a lovely lesbian couple from Brighton. They think they will call the child Matilda - Tilly for short. Lizzie knows they are the right people. On the car ride home, Sue and Lizzie fight over the decision and Lizzie screams that she wants to finally move forward with life.

BAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMM! The car is slammed by another.

Lizzie wakes up in the hospital - no longer pregnant. Sue and Dan tell her that she’s had an emergency c-section and the baby is fine. Sue and Lizzie reconcile. Lizzie goes to see Tilly. She also sees the lesbian couple take her away. Lizzie is OK with that.

Later that year, Lizzie is ready to go off to university with Shona. She has a coffee with Mike, prior to him having one with his mum, Erin, as they start to rekindle their relationship. Lizzie’s hopeful for him. Lizzie and Shona head towards the tunnel, her phone showing how all her family and friends have moved on in a positive way. It goes black.

Lizzie wakes up in the public toilet. Pregnant. Her phone rings. Mum. She thinks. She answers and asks for her mum's help. Sue says they will figure it out together.  Lizzie soon discovers she’s broken the time loop by answering the phone. She realises that life has many choices that will lead you down different paths - each will have some good and some bad but what's important is to keep those that you love close by, especially your mum. Lizzie heads home to her mum, ready to make her own choice.
